Oil (and coal) companies made big $$$ by giving us what we wanted, and helping us to want it. And also by not paying for the cleanup of the mess that burning carbon does on a large scale.

The myth that we can live by drilling more has been recognized by the Chinese for what it is: a way to remain dependent on countries that are not all that stable. They have also recognized the fact that if all their prospective car owners were to be burning gasoline, the earth would die from the pollution, even if the oil could be found. That's why they are building the first 8 nuclear generating plants (no-meltdown design), which is just to get their feet wet with the technology, before getting really serious . That's why they have funded, I think the number is, 29 battery and electric car plants.

We have answers, not all large, but which put together will get us to that 30% reduction in per capita carbon-based energy use. That's just a start, but it's a good start.

>So, first we have to build an 85 square mile piece of glass that can never break and hope for sunny days, build wind generators and always hope for wind ( will it blow if we warm or cool the planet I can never tell which way you guys claim we are going now ), and lastly the conserve mantra. Sound like Utopia.

>I have my house so airtight now I could create a vacuum and I still spend lots in electricity. Unless you are willing to pay twice what it costs to build a house you will never see a return on your investment. Just like that Prius load of junk, by the time you pay for it you have to own it like 12 years before you see your return and I saw a 3 year old one the other day that looked like a '65 Pacer from Michigan. And beside what to do with the spent batteries, oh my.

>No the answer is to drill and invest money in future fusion technology or something that has not emerged yet.

>The oil companies made big $$$ and have it just sitting on their books and will not invest in anything because they risk having the effort declared bad for some dart snail or fungii and losing it all. I wouldn't invest either if I was them.
