If you use SQLSETPROP(0, "DispLogin", 3), then it will not display a dialog and SQLCONNECT() or SQLSTRINGCONNECT() will instead return -1 and you can use AERROR() to find out what went wrong. Either way, those commands don't throw an error so your CATCH code won't execute.
