I am trying to create a "Smart Grid" where the end users can enter data directly into the grid with intellegent look up drop down boxes in the grid. Any examples or suggestions out there? Thanks in advance to your help.

Hi John,

As others have said, they would prefer NOT to use the grid for data entry. I understand what they are saying but I have successfully used grids as data entry so it CAN be done. There are a few tricks I had to learn such as capturing keystrokes so the user can add a line by simply pressing the ENTER key etc etc.

If you have a lot of data to enter OR a lot of data to correct, the grid is a great tool.

In my vertical market app, there are many places where I display part names in a grid. I ALWAYS give the user the opportunity to correct the spelling etc of partnames whenever they see it displayed, usually in a grid. For example, run a report to see which parts are subject to sales tax, I do a SQL into a cursor and display the results in a grid. Then the user can make corrections right in the grid and then print the report.

Good luck!!
