See the USA between 1980-1997 for a good start to the restoration. You mean the good old days? ;-)
We can't turn back the clock, we have to deal with today's realities and we need to fix the problem, not the blame, right? So where is the preferable model functioning today- iow a state that copes better with today's circumstances including no Cold War but a couple of occupations underway, imperialist China, an expanding EU that already includes some previously Soviet nations, American manufacturing gifted to foreigners to satisfy shareholders and the public or out-competed by more capable overseas manufacturers and a capitalist banking system that just tried to take us all out?
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
