A bit too strong to my taste. My grids are populated by views or cursor, but I allow users to filter on a field by field basis. Esspecially handy if the grid contains a hundred records or so, but you want to filter by a certain field value.
That the scrollbar is not behaving right is unfortunate, but not critical in this case.

I think the key is, not to use filters to select directly from tables, and only use them as a ad-hoc user tool.
