I turned in the rental car with Tennessee plates. (That's a great John Hiatt song if you haven't heard it). This week I'm a Texan. Not sure why the Louisiana rental car companies seem short of cars with Louisiana plates.

I don't know if you like Steve Earle or Townes Van Zandt, suspect you like both. I read a terrific article about them at the Atlanta airport on Sunday. I responded to it personally because they both battled addictions. Steve is making it, Townes didn't. Steve Earle was almost a goner and somehow pulled himself out of it.

"Copperhead Road" -- now that's a kicka*s song. "Guitar Town," too. There is a picture of him playing in Amsterdam when he was young and ungrizzled, 1987. I saw him on that same tour in Manchester.

He also had a recurring part in "The Wire", one of the best shows ever.
