Ridiculous. How can an employer (public or private) give such power to the union is beyond my comprehension.
>I know a group of folks who fought the federal government and won. It took 5 years though. They were all let go from government jobs under the 'restructuring and streamlining to save costs' measure. Approximately 1.5-2 years later, the same organization grew to the same size it was before those employees were let go. They sued and won the right to have their position back and all back pay and allowances since the day they were let go. In the end, it turned out it was the manager's only way of dismissing those employees whom she felt were not productive enough (given the union's rules) which everyone suspected but no one discussed at the time.
