We've had some success with the following trick. I don't know why it works, but, in many cases, it does. (No gurantees, of course)

SET TABLEVALIDATE  TO 0
USE myTable
GO BOTTOM
BROWSE
    append four or five blank records
    go to the first new record
DELETE REST
USE
