I don't know if you are familiar with Notes and it's replication capability which allows you to sync two copies of an occassionally connected database. A prime application for this is in sales force automation or branch office processing where real time updates are not required. The generation of a primary key for new records becomes the difficult part. Notes solves this by using something like a combo of database id + replica id + document id and is called a universal ID.

I haven't actually put many brain cells into this particular feature yet. However, have you seen the September '97 FoxPro Advisor Article by Mac Rubel on the subject?
