What is the combobox's RowSourceType? How many columns does your combobox have? By any measure, 5,000 is quite a high number of items to display in a combobox. Can you use a grid instead?

The grid is *much* faster than the combobox. It's also interesting to note that the number of fields in a combobox's RowSource also affects the speed of the combobox dramatically...even if you are only displaying one field in the combo/listbox!
