>>>I really don't think life will ever be as it was before for us. Look at what you have to go through now to fly on an airplane. Leave the shampoo and toothpaste at home, take your shoes off, go through long checkpoints, have your identity papers checked twice. No more goodbyes or welcomes at the gate -- passengers only past the checkpoint, jaworl! Look at what the security is like downtown in big cities now. I don't know if Charlotte is the same but even the most rinky dink office buildings in downtown Chicago now have security checkpoints, and lots of them have concrete barricades surrounding them. Go back to the way it was before? Not any time soon, if ever.
>>>
>>>One thing I am absolutely certain of is they will try again. Why wouldn't they? The 9/11 operation was estimated to cost Al Qaedo a few hundred thousand dollars. The financial impact on us is probably incalculable, in the billions for sure. More fundamentally, look what they have done to our way of life by hitting us once. In fear and paranoia we have turned our backs on some things that made us proud to be American. Of course they will try again. And if they manage to do it with chemical or biological weapons, 3000 dead will seem like a mosquito bite.
>>
>>Not even close. No stores have concrete barricades or security checkpoints. Not even the banks or large corporations except those that did before 9/11. Some large businesses always had pass cards and secure buildings long before 9/11. The only places that changed since 9/11 here are the courthouses and all federal buildings.
>>
>>Our way of life has barely changed at all since 9/11. A few inconveniences when traveling now or going to court or a federal building. Those security systems should have been in place prior to 9/11.

>Well, there's the military mind speaking ;-) No need to bat it back and forth but I think life in this country was changed dramatically by 9/11. Not just dramatically -- fundamentally.

Interesting comment. We definitely see it differently, but then I live in a different part of the country than you. I've done a bit of traveling too. I don't think having a 'military mind' has anything to do with it. We just view it differently. Plus, I haven't been in the military for over 18 years. :o)
