Depending upon where you're at (State, County, City or some combination of them) sales tax on clothing gets screwy too..sometimes it's taxed, sometimes not - and then if it is..SOME clothing may be taxed..others not (like "essential clothing" gets taxed, "accesories" dont)...a real pain in the neckI had to deal with before...
>And to add even more confusion, some products are charged sales tax and others aren't. For example, when I do grocery shopping, prepared foods such as potato salad, is charged sales tax, but other things, like potatoes, mayo, eggs, etc needed to make it aren't. So a single store needs to track whether each item is taxable.

>>Hello All,
>>
>>I am interested to find out what others are doing to manage sales taxes.
>>The problem is there are thousands of overlapping taxing entities who change the rates whenever they wish, and some of the changes are temporary. You have State Sales Tax, County Sales Tax, City Sales Tax, and business districts.
>>
>>The ideal solution would be a webservice run by the Govt, I would be leary about privately run services that the data would be correct and udated timely.
