One more comment I would make. You state that there are more important things in life than the drink and you especially mention your kids. However, your behavior demonstrates otherwise.

I agree. It seems to me that Mike doesn't really want to stop drinking. If he did, he would make more of an attempt to work the program. Personally, I think that the people who try to be supportive and sympathetic after he has been drinking are enabling him.
