>>9) Look back at 8. Ah yes... Government control of the masses - Coercion at its finest..... What about the POOR people, Michael? Oh yes... looking back at his intro of this article, he takes JOY at GM's fall, and the misery it brings upon the POOR affected.

That is a major reason. Unions is the other one.

I had made a point of only buying American cars until gas topped $3/gallon in 2005. We went looking for vehicles to replace our 15MPG american cars and found nothing American that I could fit in (I need more headroom than most) that was fuel efficient. Nothing.

We decided that if American manufacturers were'nt going to build reasonable vehicles that we'd buy something else.

Wound up buying a Chevrolet Aveo (made by Daewoo in Korea with a Chevy name sticker) and a Kia Spectra 5. Both get better than 30MPG and I can fit in them. Bonus was that both were very inexpensive!

This weekend we are trading in the Aveo for a Toyota Prius. It doe not have the headroom I need but my wife will make good use of close to 50MPG.

If US automakers survive long enough to make sensible cars again, we'll buy them. Until then, we buy what makes sense.
