Bush averaged ~250B in annual deficits (i.e. national debt increase). You may multiple it by 8 (it is fascinating exercise). Currently, the deficit for the 1st year of Obama's presidency is estimated at $1,800B. The same administration projects that during next 10 years it will be successfully (i.e either saved or created) reduced to about $500B/year, i.e. about 2 times higher than average Bush result.
