IIRC it's possible to enable ClearType within both Windows itself (can be useful if you're using an LCD panel or laptop) and within IE specifically. You could experiment with turning one or the other off, if you're using either.
In IE: Tools...Internet Options...Advanced...Multimedia...Always use ClearType for HTML
In Windows: Right-click Desktop...Properties...Appearance...Effects...Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:
