I'm unaware of any advantages of the hyperlink control over SHELLEXECUTE().
The ActiveDoc (including hyperlink control) was added in VFP6 and all references to ActiveDoc were removed in VFP8. However the hyperlink control still references it indirectly:
"A Hyperlink object provides navigational capabilities for Visual FoxPro applications hosted in containers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer. Note that the Hyperlink object is supported only in Microsoft Internet Explorer".
