physicians spend about three hours a week interacting with insurers; clinical and administrative staff devote much more time to it.

And then you've got Medicare, co-pay, billbacks, RAC audits and all the rest of it. A lot of people say physicians spend 40-50% of their time on admin. That adds billions of $ to the cost of care.

I do not follow the logic of everyone else does it so we should too.

Unconstrained healthcare is quite capable of growing to consume the entire GDP.Your care *is* rationed now, one way or another.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
