>Personally I was not taking pleasure in it, just predicting there will be lots of jokes. I feel sympathy for her, in fact. Not so much over the ankle -- reportedly not all that serious -- as the embarrassment / distraction factor. Here is a woman who grew up in modest circumstances in the Bronx, graduated from Princeton first in her class, Yale law school, successful prosecutor, 18 years a judge, on the brink of joining the Supreme Court -- and now all anyone wants to talk about is a stumble at the airport.

She had the illegal immigration experience as a young child, but as a teen she lived in a middle class neighborhood and attended private school. She earned her way to success and is an example example of the possibility of greatness in this country.

My issue with her are not with her ethnicity, her left-leaning views, her history, or even her membership in La Raza (they support driver's licenses for illegal immigrants, amnesty programs, and no immigration law enforcement by local and state police). My issues are with her decisions in the courtroom. Her stance on the Ricci case was WRONG. On some other issues she appears to be willing to expand constitutional rights.

Questionable:

Gant v. Wallingford Board of Education
Makesko v. Correctional Services Corporation
Ricci v. DeStefano
Bartlett v. New York State Board of Law Examiners
Croll v. Croll
Riverkeeper v. Environmental Protection Agency

On the other hand, she has given strong opinions (which I support) in cases involving civil rights, police evidence and strip searches.

N.G. and S.G. v. Connecticut
Kelsey v. County of Schoharie
U.S. v. Santa

and
Papineau v. Parmley
