not a large portion = insignificant.

Look, essentially the US has a two party system. The rest is about insignificant as they have never won any elections, never have delivered a president and therefore have no real power.

Up here, things are different. We have about 8 parties with more than 4%. and another dozen of smaller ones. There are three significant left parties (PVDA, SP, Groen links) called left. Two significant right (PVV, VVD) and a few centrists (CU, CDA and D66).
We always have to form coalitions of two or more parties (currently 3).
