VS2005 / .NET 2.0 / VB.NET / ASP.NET

I'm using a formview that is working fine.

I'd like to make the Edit/Upate/Insert/Cancel/etc linkbuttons into buttons (or at least have them look like buttons like they should have been in the first place!!).

Past that, I'd like to move them outside of the formview templates to a different place on the page.

I've read various posts on the web that say to just change the tags from LinkButton to Button to make them look right. While this certainly makes them look right, the only problem is that they don't work! They cause a postback but data is not saved. There must be another step to this (or hundreds of steps + javascript + hacks + sacrifices to the various Gods as is typical in asp.net).

I haven't seen any 2 posts agree on how to move the linkbuttons/buttons/etc off the formview templates.

Help?
