Hail to the Pittsburgh Penguins for knocking off the defending champion Detroit Red Wings. In Detroit to boot, reversing the finale of last year's Stanley Cup.

The handshake line at the end of a Stanley Cup series is one of the best moments in sports IMO. They beat each other's heads in for two weeks, then when it's over shake hands and speak to each other like gentlemen. Very classy.

And nothing can really compare to the privilege of the winners to skate around the ice holding the Cup aloft. A book could be written about the Stanley Cup itself, and in fact some have been. By the age of about 8 every kid who has more than passing interest in hockey has that fantasy. Every sport has its fantasy moments but I don't think many have equivalent coronation moments. Having an Olympic gold medal draped over your head is one. But not many others I can think of. IAC it's sheer joy on the faces of these guys as they take their turn around the ice. Too bad the Pens didn't get to do it in front of their home fans but I guess they can live with that.

On a personal note, I said the other day that my TV was on the fritz and I didn't miss it. Which was true, and will be true again. But the TV is back and OMG, did the game look sensational on a 52 inch HDTV.
