>>>Tolls have ben removed in CT from both the Merrtit Parkway and the CTTurnpike (I-95).

>>Were there really tolls on the Merritt? When was that? That road is such a PITA already, it's hard to imagine adding tolls.

>Well, I've lived here 25yrs now and I don't remember exactly when they were removed, probably 8-10 yrs ago. I like the Merrit and prefer it to the trucks on I-95 but when there is an accident or construction you are correct.... a real PITA.

We've been driving to or through Connecticut with some regularity for more than a decade, between summer camp, college visits, and two kids going to college in New England. We've switched back and forth between I-95 and the parkways and I can't ever remember paying a toll on the Merritt. Okay, here we go. From Wikipedia: "Tolls were collected on the parkway at one toll plaza in Greenwich from June 21, 1939 until June 27, 1988." So 20 years, not 10. <s>

What we learned over time was that in going to New England from here, southern Connecticut was far more likely to be a bottleneck than NY, partly because NY just has a lot more alternates.
