>The bottom line is that when it came time for legal action, whether the Supreme Court of Bosnia, a federal court in the U.S., or a military tribunal at Gitmo, no one could prove anything. In the case of the U.S., we didn't have enough to even try him, but less get a conviction.

>A judge ruled there wasn't enough - that is true. Looking at the facts, I doubt he was innocent...there just wasn't enough to convict him. However, it's entirely possible that we gained information. So I'm not very sympathetic. And I'm far more concerned about people we release right back onto the battlefield. While the numbers are in dispute, even those who favored shutting down Gitmo Bay have acknowledged this fact.

I'm afraid that Guantanamo was the day the US (temporarily) decided to step off the moral high ground. An action that gave huge comfort to your enemies and was a very effective recruiting sergeant for militants all over the world. Whatever limited intelligence gain the US made was more than offset by the harm caused to the reputation of your country. I have to say the US deserved better than that.
