There are some folks who call it 'soda' but soda is not the most popular phrase everywhere in the south. You almost NEVER hear 'POP' or even 'SODA POP' unless it's a yankee in town :o)
I asked for a soda pop at a resturant in Florida once and the waitress imediatels asked if I was from Wisconsin:)
I think calling soda coke is silly but I guess I do the same with kleenex, I asked for a kleenex one time (again in Florida) and the lady came back after a while and asked me if Puff brand was ok.
