Edward, why are you ignoring the interest and dividends? If the money was returned along with interest and dividends, that means it came with extra money that came from somewhere else. A profit.

Obviously the money was not lent to banks with the goal of earning a profit, so I'm not sure why you suggested that. What the repayment with profit means is that the legacy of trillions of $ for our children to pay back may not be quite so dire.

Finally I'm not sure why you think that printing money might reduce the deficit. How could that be?
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
