Interestingly, radiative heat transfer from a blackbody varies as the fourth power of the absolute temperature - one of relatively few fourth-power relationships found in nature. Radiative heat transfer rapidly overtakes convective as the temperature climbs; convective heat loss from an incandescent filament is negligible.
