I spend a semester trying to debug a program we got from Oak Ridge National Labs that did gaussian curve fitting to gamma ray spectra that was my first exposure to "KLUDGE" which was one of the argument names to a function!

Good for learning why not to use it!...I remember once in a beginning Pascal class, the instructor had never even mentioned the existence of GOTO (nevermind not to use it), so for fun I submitted a program laced with GOTOs. She had a conniption at first, but eventually saw the humor of it when I explained my facetiousness :)
