Word would paginate a shoestring just if you paste it.

You may be better off by feeding it smaller chunks and then combining them in a master document. That way you may reuse some chunks, perhaps, and you can include your "other Word documents" among the subdocuments. You may have a master document template, where you'd define the styles and then apply them to subdocuments, then SaveAs(). Macro recorder will know more than I do - how to insert subdocuments, how to apply pagination consistently, how to select renumbering of paragraphs, pictures etc (as you can opt to renumber them or keep as they were, possibly selectable for each subdocument separately).

My bet is to use as little formatting in HTML as possible, import and try to put them together first manually, see what happens, try to reproduce programmatically. If it's all together too big, Word may clog your machine or just crash or do fine, depending on version of Word, which one of the Windowses are you running and any other reasons why YMMV.

Don't try this at home, go to your neighbor's.
