Giuliani was the closest answer, imo, and, unfortunately, he did not get much traction. It is easier to pontificate about abortion and/or carbon dioxide than defend free markets (in real terms). Republicans allowed themselves to become a party of status quo and it could not continue long; i.e. status-quo created complacency. However, status-quos are not worse that meltdowns and US public is going to learn it hard way.

Despite Rudy G's efforts after 9/11, he is not electable at a national level.

I agree, we're headed for a meltdown.

The Status-quo of the republican party has gotten so tiring - I'm sick of hearing about legislation on same-sex marriage and gays in the military (the Europeans are right, we as a nation are FAR too hung up on sex, at least when it mixes with politics). It's a moral smoke-screen. I'll add to my wish-list....someone who has the guts to say, "two consenting adults....period......next question"
