>>>I caught a snippet on BBC world news this morning saying that within a few months it is forecast that over a hundred thousand people per day will contract swine flu. The vaccine won't be available until the end of the year. When I talk to my doctor about diseases, flu is the one that scares him the most.

Swine flu confirmed at Camp Dixie

Two cases of the H1N1 virus have been confirmed at Camp Dixie, a Bladen County summer camp where dozens of people became ill over the weekend.

Lana Jernigan, director of ministries for the camp, said the two people infected were being treated with Relenza or Tamiflu, typical flu medicines.

It was unclear whether those affected by the virus, which is also called swine flu, were children or counselors. Last week's camp was for fifth- and sixth-graders.

Leaders voluntarily closed Camp Dixie, between Fayetteville and Elizabethtown, on Saturday after about 60 campers and staff went to the nurses' quarters with fevers, sore throats, congestion and headaches, Jernigan said.

The camp is expected to reopen Sunday, said Jernigan, who also became ill.

The camp has been cleaned and sanitized. Jernigan said precautions are in place to screen prospective campers and counselors. Anyone who is sick will be sent home. Any camper with a sibling who became sick after attending last week's camp should not come to camp.

As of Monday afternoon, the state had confirmed 179 cases of the H1N1 virus in North Carolina, two of which have resulted in death.

Cases have been confirmed in 39 of 100 counties, including one each in Cumberland and Hoke, two in Harnett, and four each in Sampson and Lee
