If there's medical proof that the pill will make him live longer, the governement should pay. 500 000$ divided by about 32 000 000 canadians represent about 0.015$/canadian/year. There's 4 case in Alberta. Let say that there's around 45 cases in Canada. That give us around 0.68$/canadian/year. I think that life is worth more than that.
500 000$ for a year worth of pills seem a bit expensive to me. It will surely cost less in time and there's probably place for negociation and/or alternatives.
