But that's the whole point. It wasn't the taxes per se they objected to. It was that they had no say in the imposition of those taxes. There were taxes in the colonies, but they were imposed locally, by locally representative bodies.


Actually, it all depends on who you talk to. Even within the colonists, there were much stronger voices than others regarding taxation.
