VFP won't be aware what the server is, Linux or Unix with Samba, Novell, or Windows. I've used Linux, FreeBSD, SCO, and AIX with Samba for years with few problems. In heavy multi-user environments there are odd problems every few months that don't occur when using a Windows server. To keep maintenance down, I generally specify a Windows server. Around the office I often use Linux or FreeBSD to keep my costs down.
