Make them 1 bite bigger that the actual field size, just because if you want some 12 digit Models you can go to this situation:

      1           2
------------|------------
123456789012908765432109
-|----------|------------
   valid
--|----------|-----------
     valid
etc.

But if you make them 13 bites you will get:

      1           2
-------------|------------
*123456789012*908765432109
