We still code for 800 by 600 but our application is used in the shop floors where they have crappy old PC and monitors. If your app is mainly used by normal desktop users I think most people run at least 1024 now, but you should always consider your target market what they will mainly have. i.g. older people with poor eyesight will be less likely to have larger resolutions.
