How about a student registration app? Complete with Student pictures, student Id. Include ability to print student ID card with picture and barcode equal to the ID number. Track student class schedules and grades by semester or quarter (however it is done where you are). Also put in a mechanism for tracking books and other resources checked out from the library/libraries. You could include ability for recreational reservations (tennis, raquetball courts, etc.), campus meal plans, dormitory and other facility access privileges. All, of course, based on the student ID card.

I doubt this would actually take 7-8 months depending, of course, on your other class load.
