I've seen it done quite often, but I'm not using it at all. First, there's only one .tag, and if there's anyone who should use it, it's the framework. However, it's meaningless. What's a tag? It has about zero semantic information; it's also confusing because there are index tags too, so is it related to some use of an index?

Worse, what if there's a third party component (though nobody ever explained who are the first two parties and how the ballots are cast) which writes into the .tag property? It may overwrite what framework is doing.

My preference is to define custom properties with meaningful names, at whichever level, at design nor run time. The chances for accidental overlapping of names are minimal.
