We spend a lot on our military so we can protect ourselves, and other parts of the world like Europe, Asia, and Africa....

I'm not querying that. I'm saying that if you want to have more military than most other countries put together, you must expect that taxes will be higher. Ireland has no military to speak of but a socialized healthcare system and 12.5% corporate tax. Clearly "healthcare" is not the only contributor to taxation levels.

I get that from your responses. You wonder why we don't love paying more taxes and I think most people here don't mind paying taxes, but not under this wasteful administration.

I don't like paying taxes at all. My only 'beef" is about speeches that are strong on rhetoric and name-calling but weak on math and logic. In this case you already have the most expensive healthcare system in the world despite leaving 45M of your fellow citizens without care but people insist that the sort of socialized care implemented by everybody else will cost even more. It's illogical. In addition, people act as if the healthcare tax is in addition to existing healthcare spend rather than instead of it. Do you pay healthcare premiums now? If your tax increase is less than the premium you currently pay, why are you worse off? On the other hand if Obama does charge extra just to provide free care for the 45M while leaving you to keep funding your own, of course I'd understand why you oppose.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
