The problem seems to occur when opening any form; almost all of them contain remote views and all of them have the connstring. I wouldn't have thought these should generate that message.

I've begun to suspect, and the IT consultant hasn't denied, that the problem has something to do with the A/V software's scan process. I know my workstation functions as if mired in molasses while the A/V scan is running.... Something they didn't tell me is that this has only happened to 2 people. One of them works remotely every day (Natasha) and the other works remotely 3 or 4 days a week. My obvious question is whether it has ever happened to a LAN user? No response on that yet. Clearly Terminal Server has a completely different set of issues and I wouldn't begin to guess where the A/V software fits into the process. Apparently there is a significant time lag when switching between applications (IM or Outlook to the VFP app) when connected via TS. Honestly, I have many apps that use a combination of remote views and SPT and all function well without any special management of connections. I don't know why this should suddenly show up. However, if anyone could cause a process to fail, it would be Natasha. Every client seems to have a user like this....
