So OK, no one should hire T.O. as an English teacher. But he has a point. Michael Vick has paid his debt to society and deserves the chance to come back. Guys have done a lot worse he did and come right back to the active roster after a slap-on-the-wrist four game suspension. There's a guy right now who was convicted of vehicular manslaughter and got only the four games. Michael Vick is a bigger problem for the NFL because he has been a public relations problem, not because what he did was worse. Is that fair to him?

Please understand I am not a Michael Vick fan and never was, even before the dogfighting stuff came out. I just think he, or anyone else under the same circumstances, deserves the chance to come back.

If he gets the green light, it will take a bold team to sign him. The practical matter is it's questionable whether he can return to an NFL caliber of play after two years away. And the potential fan backlash is huge. I don't think Michael Vick jerseys will again lead the league in sales (as I believe they once did).

F. Scott Fitzgerald was wrong when he said there are no second acts in American life. (He just didn't live long enough). We will give a person a second chance if they seem genuinely penitent and what they did was not beyond the pale.
