>>Gatorade is a so-called sports drink which was designed to replenish energy the body loses during strenuous exercise. It was designed by scientists at the University of Florida to be used by the football team, whose nickname is the Gators, hence the name. I have read that you're better off drinking water unless you're doing extreme exercise like long distance running or biking. In practice is gets used a lot more frequently than that.

It's popular here, too. I spend a lot of time around soccer fields and volleyball courts and would guess half the players show up with Gatorade or one of the other sports drinks. My point was only that it isn't any more effective in rehydration than water for most of them.
