Can I get it here in the states?I know you can get something called a jambon cru in NY. IMHO the key ingredient is dry-cured ham usually called "prosciutto" in US delis, so I guess you can get one made to order. You want it made with crusty bread, usually fresh baguette. I always ask for it without butter or other condiments. Dry-cured ham, sliced natural cheese (any of the fancy ones from Wisconsin should do,) sliced tomatoes, lettuce and seasonal salads. No pickle, no mustard, no ranch dressing or any of that stuff. Not toasted or heated. No fries. a glass of red wine if that's socially acceptable. ;-) A very simple sandwich but great if you can sit outside in the sun and watch the world go by.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
