I've got VS2008 installed and am trying to learn some C#3. From what I understand, this requires the .NET framework v3.5.

Today, Windows Updates tells me that it wants to install an update to .NET Framework 1.1! WTF? Why?

Isn't v3.5 backwards compatible with 1.1 and shouldn't I be able to only use one version (I'd like to stick to 3.5 and I don't care about any other apps that need v1.1). Can I safely delete/remove earlier versions of the framework?

If I look in the list of "Add or Remove Programs" I see:

Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 (35.22MB)
Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 (183.00MB)
Microsoft .Net Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2 (179.00MB)
Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 (28.00MB)

AAAARRRRRGGgg!!

TIA
Mike
