You are on the right track. When I did the online, I got the choice of just what to install, so I picked the VFP help (including local viewer) and nothing else.
This installed my VFP [HTML] help locally. So all I do his hit F1 or type: HELP_Topicname in the command window, etc., and the VFP help launches locally without a prompt for the CD.
I'm sorry for not being more detailed, but I do not have the CDs here with me to run through it again.
