>The problem is that Mike HAS TO WANT TO CHANGE; currently he doesn't, so any intervention will result in the same thing, another drunken spree. Pleading for him to do so just feeds his ego that people care and want to see good things for him. The sad commentary is (having lived through this myself with a drunken mother after my father was killed) is that he is destroying his daughter's lives. They will be scarred forever by his current actions. I have zero tolerance, zero patience, and zero sympathy for drunks.

>The scars happen whether or not you want them too. We were 5 kids, 3 boys, 2 girls... both girls turned out to be prostitutes and drunks. 2 of the 3 boys are alcoholics and one drank himself into a nursing home requiring 24 hour care. I'm the only one who is not an alcoholic (at least I don't think so). I drink beer a couple of times a week, but can stop at any time. My kids haven't had to live with that extra burden on a drunken father.

Sad story John. We react differently to Mike's problem based on our past experiences. I never had to deal with members of my family having that problem. Perhaps your approach is better.

What do you think happened in order for you to be the only member of your family that didn't get on the wrong track?
