Toronto has a large population but is it a major sports media city? Lots of endorsement money available to baseball players? I have also heard the Canadian dollar vs. U.S. dollar puts all Canadian teams at a disadvantage.

I am skeptical about that 50,000 attendance average. That works out to over 4 million for a season, which I believe would be a record other than maybe the Dodgers.

Halladay is a very good pitcher, no question. So is Tim Lincecum, among others.

Mike, Toronto WAS a major sports city, but in recent years the Raptors, Maple Leafs, and Blue Jays have been falling off.

I haven't looked at the exchange rates recently, but not too long ago the Canadian dollar and US dollar were pretty close. I was in Montreal 3 straight years ('05, '06', and '07), and the exchange rate got closer to even every year.

Yes, at one time, Toronto had awesome attendance. In the late 1980's and early 1990's, they were definitely drawing at least 3 million a year, if not more.

Halladay is a much better pitcher than Lincecum. Lincecum is good, Halladay is simply better. (Lincecum is also younger, so we have yet to see how good he'll be....but he pitches in an inferior league)
