I don't think Kevin considers himself a Libertarian (although I would so I will ask) how that can be considered a pack mentality? If anything it is the opposite. I consider the Dems and Repubs more a 'pack mentality.'

I agree with you that general partisan politics represent the "pack" (more like the mob).

I can see where some would think I'm a Libertarian, but I'm not. (I often joke that I'm a libertarian with a little 'l" and not a big 'L') <s>

The Libertarian party has bastardized the concept of individual liberties and has supported ideas that are far worse than anything Dems/Reps have supported.

- The Libertarian party for years was involved with NAMBLA, and has never understood the difference between a 12 year old boy and a 30 year old man.

- Some in the libertarian party CELEBRATED 9/11, because of the massive hit out our govt took

- Many Libertarians do not support a strong military/defense system

- Many Libertarians have sympathized with communist movements where the U.S. was involved (for instance, a well-known libertarian economist named Murray Rothbard made statements in support of the communist movement in Vietnam, even after the Khmer Rouge)

In a nutshell, here's what I consider myself: http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/objectivism.html

I discovered this when I was in my late teens. Prior to learning about Ayn Rand, I already held the general essence of most of her ideas - reading her gave form and structure to what I felt in my gut or my heart or my brain, but couldn't quite express.

As far as "the pack" goes, I'm reminded of a great quote: "Civilization is the process of setting man free from men"
