I thought of that but my problem is knowing what to convert them to - in the meantime I have written a VFP program which scans the database of towns for any town containing ASCII code greater that 150 - it then Googles the zip code to give me the town name in clear which I then paste back into the database - a bit slow but quite fun
Thanks for your help
