>Final episode sucked. Just like Chris Carter and the X-Files, David Chase didn't have a good grip on how to end it. By the end, the characters were all whiny shadows of their former selfs (selves? too late on a Friday). Chase would have made me much happier had Paulie been whacked.

There used to be a good chat site for Sopranos that was hopping after new episodes. Everyone from judges to guys who should have been on the show. The ones who annoyed me were the ones who evaluated every episode based on whether anyone was whacked.

I thought the finale was perfect. One of the things I liked best about David Chase was his comfort with ambiguity. Life is like that. Things don't always have tidy endings. The screen went black and you didn't know whether Tony had been whacked or not. (Victor posted something that made a pretty convincing case that he was).

One thing I didn't notice the first time was that in the final scene in the diner they put the onion rings on their tongues like communion wafers. Now that's attention to detail.

Have you watched "The Wire"? Not as good as "The Sopranos" but pretty darned close.
